Golden Advice For Runners
Our SPRING FLING well&tight members met with elite runner Jared Whiteside last week to learn about training efficiently for a 10 km race. Jared's advice helped many of our runners step up their running ability and challenged them beyond their own preset limits. Below is a recap of some of the great advice Jared had to share with us.
CONSISTENCY
Create a routine that works for you and your busy schedule. Do not stress if you miss a day, but re-commit to your routine often. Success comes in the frequency of your activities. Remember to keep your head up and focus on long term goals. This isn’t about one single moment…it's about the long term accomplishments of YOU.
CHANGE
Create variety to your workouts to stay motivated and keep improving. It will keep your mind and body fresh as well as wanting more. Click here to access some great track workouts if you find yourself repeating the same comfortable training session.
RECOVER
Remember, the workout breaks the body down, the recovery gives your body time to rebuild. Stay focused on your nutrition, sleep, and overall activity to maximize all your hard work, making you stronger than ever.
BREAK IT UP
Workouts can seem “impossible” or stressful to execute. A great way to manage the workout ahead of you is to break it into achievable sections. Don’t worry about what’s to come. Instead focus on the blocks throughout the workout or interval and you will be amazed how quickly time passes. This is how ALL champions make the impossible, possible.
ENJOY
This long exciting road ahead is all about you and reaching your personal potential. Approach it slowly and methodically and everything you put in you’ll get back 10 times over. Be kind and give yourself the permission to enjoy the journey of training as well as the race. Training is a wonderful gift. Jared's coach once told him that running should be all about “smelling the roses". Push your belly as far out as possible, take in a huge breath of air (do you smell the roses?) now exhale until every last ounce of oxygen has exited your body…now you’re ready…enjoy it!
Thank you Jared for an awesome evening. You are a very inspiring coach and we are all #betterforit.
